Loren Murphy, former In-Sight Student,
at Boston University
by Erin Barnard
Loren
Murphy is entering her junior year at Boston University’s
College of Communication where she is majoring in Photojournalism.
Three years after taking her first class at In-Sight, Loren
still thinks of the program as her “home away from home.”
After having taken a photography class at Brattleboro Union
High School, Loren came to In-Sight for the opportunity to
continue exploring photography during her senior year. The
program at In-Sight encouraged her to shoot and print whenever
she wanted. She remembers In-Sight as a place where she had
the freedom to pursue what most interested her while “always
receiving constructive feedback in a very positive way.” Loren
reflects on the many In-Sight lab hours she attended as the
most fundamental aspect of her early experience with photography.
She says, “it was during the open lab times that I first began
to develop expressing myself through photography.”
Loren’s exposure to photography at BUHS and In-Sight has
led her to her college major. She says, “right before I went
to BU I realized I didn’t want to be a journalism major –
I wanted to do photography. So I switched to photojournalism.”
Since then Loren has been in Boston working toward entering
the field of fashion photography. This summer, like the last,
returning to In-Sight was one of the main reasons Loren came
back to Brattleboro. “The darkroom is my favorite place, and
In-Sight feels like home.” |
