The
project started as a middle of the night thought in my
head. In-Sight had a 4x5 camera donated a year ago that
had been sitting under my desk. I wondered if a number
of the advanced students might like the challenge of the
view camera. It wasn’t long before we hit the streets,
with a sign and an upholstered chair, to create a roving
portrait studio in numerous locations around Brattleboro.
We chose to use a type of Polaroid film that produces
an instant positive and a negative, so we had something
to give back to our sitters.
There will be a show of these portraits in our new
space at 45 Flat Street starting on September 5th for
Gallery Walk.
“This project taught us to use a 4x5
view camera, as well as help raise awareness of In-Sight
in the community. It taught us a lot about how different
people react to being in the chair, and about human
nature.” - Zach Stephens
“I think all of us plan to continue using the 4x5
for our personal work.”
-- Helen Jones
“When I first met this camera, I fell in love… I wanted this
camera to take me to an exciting, new world of beauty and
intrigue. And it did. And I love it. Thanks.”
